FAQ?

Q:What is scalp micropigmentation Aka SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive treatment for both men and women. It is also known as non-surgical cosmetic procedure that creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles, restoring the appearance of hair on a shaved scalp or camouflaging Thinning hair, Scar, Alopecia by creating the illusion of a thicker head of hair with Microdots.

Q: How long does SMP Last?

After your sessions are complete, expect that the SMP results should last for many years. You may require touch-ups according to your particular needs.

Q: Is it safe?

es, we use a sterile one-time-use only pre-packaged needle. Our Lead Practitioner is a licensed technician by The New York City Department of Health.

Q: How many SMP Sessions will I need?

Scalp micropigmentation should never be considered a one treatment Session. As a general rule, most clients can expect between 3-5 sessions to complete their process. This will depend entirely on your skin type and the amount of hair loss or scarring. Each treatment session can last between 2-5 hours spaced out between 1-4 weeks apart.

Q: Does it hurt?

The discomfort you may feel is less significant than what you might experience having a tattoo. The needle penetration of the Scalp MicroPigmentation treatment is less invasive. Opinions of those who have undergone both procedures report that the SMP procedure is certainly more mild than getting a tattoo.

Q: Are SMP results permanent?

SMP is a permanent solution for hair loss and will last a lifetime with maintenance along the way. The frequency of maintenance (touch-ups) needed will depend on various factors such as your immune system, sun exposure and personal post-treatment care. The longevity of the results can vary from person to person. After completion of your treatment (3-4 sessions) a client should expect the strength of the color to last 4-6 years. Over a longer term, a client will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (not discolor) of the treatment. When this occurs they can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of their style.

Q: Is SMP detectable?

Scalp Micropigmentation has become such an effective hair loss solution because of it’s consistently natural and undetectable results. We advise and work with clients individually to obtain the look they want, Seamlessly replicate each individual hair follicle to create a perfect match for each client.

Q: How much is SMP Per Session?

The cost of SMP depends on your specific needs as well as any other personalized requirements you may have. Our treatment can range from $500 to $1200 per session. The minimum number of treatments necessary to see successful results is typically two to three sessions.

Q: How long will my SMP treatment take?

It varies depending on the amount of hair loss we are working with, but generally speaking treatment sessions can last between 2 to 5 hours per session, with short breaks taken every 30minutes or so.

Q: Will my scalp be red or sore after the SMP treatment?

This varies depending on your skin sensitivity level. Usually any redness will subside within 24hours of your SMP treatment. Some clients may experience redness for the following few days, although this is quite rare. Your scalp will not necessarily be sore after your treatment, but you may experience a slight ‘itchiness' at times whilst your skin is healing.

Q: Is SMP ideal for individuals with lighter or darker skin tones?

Yes! Our pigment (ink) is designed within the same spectrum of a grey-wash monochromatic scale and therefore we are able to match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones and hair color.

Q: Will it work with red, light brown, grey and light blond hair?

Absolutely as we mentioned in the previous question! Our pigment (ink) is designed within the same spectrum of a grey-wash monochromatic scale and therefore we are able to match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of skin tones and hair color.

Q: Is there any metal content in your SMP pigment?

Our pigment (ink) used for SMP has zero quantities of metal. We only use organic carbon-based ink with no additional colorants or additives. Traditional body art tattoo ink carries heavy quantities of metals like cadmium, iron oxide, and even mercury which can all cause allergic reactions, scarring and eczema. Traditional body art tattoo inks also cause interference withMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans and other similar scans. Our SMP pigment doesNOT interfere with (MRI) imaging

Q: Does SMP pigment discolor over time (turn orange/blue)?

No. Unlike tattoo ink, the SMP pigment is designed to fall within the same color spectrum of short cut hair. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only lighten, not discolor over an extended period of time.

Q: Do I need to take time off work?

Scalp Micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp up to 48 hours post treatment session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats should they feel the need.

Q: Can SMP camouflage my FUT/FUE hair transplant scar?

Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the color around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars can see massive improvement in concealment.

Q: How do i select a hairline suitable for me?

If you are not entirely sure as to which hairline you specifically need, our experienced Lead Specialist will provide his expertise in order to recommend what may be suitable for your head shape, skin tone, age, and preferences.

Q: Is my skin tone suitable for SMP?

Yes, absolutely! Our precise and careful pigment matching process allows our specialist to match your skin tone and native hair follicles.

Q: Will the SMP healing process keep me away from work?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that requires no downtime. For the most part, you won’t need to take time off of work and any other obligations. You may notice slight redness after your session temporarily.

Q: What tools and Materials will the specialist use?

The specialist is certified in the usage of specialized equipment for micropigmentation and permanent cosmetic treatments. This ranges from the usage of Micro SMP disposable needles, permanent makeup equipment, to pigment specially formulated for SMP.

Q: Can i wear my hair long after the procedure?

Every treatment is individual. Whether it may be pattern baldness, density to existing hair, or scarring, each situation is slightly different. Setting up a consultation will aid in determining how scalp micropigmentation will help you.
